Don & the Quixotes

Don & the Quixotes

Get wet and wild with Don & The Quixotes, Portland’s premiere instrumental 1960s-style surf guitar party band! Featuring twangy cover songs from the 1950s to the present and reverbed-out originals. Entertaining ages 2 to 92 in gold-sequined style since 2007. Combining the vintage vibe of Dick Dale and The Ventures with the irreverent whimsy of The Blues Brothers and Tony Clifton, Don & The Quixotes recall the sock hops and beach parties of the heyday of surf music, 1961-64.

Friday, July 10, 7:00pm, Red Lion River Deck.

Rat City Brass

Rat City Brass

Inspired by the pop and sizzle of Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, RCB learned the curves of the TJB sound and have been bringing that border-town fun to stages around the Northwest since 2009. Sensuous harmonies from two trumpets intertwine with a bawdy trombone. Syncopated rhythms from the drums and percussion beckon feet to the dance floor. The bass and guitar bump and grind, vying for your hips’ attention. A tipsy marimba bubbles its way into the mix and yes, this is shaping up to be quite an evening, isn’t it?

Friday, July 10, 8:30pm, Red Lion River Deck.

Tiki Kon Air is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic album Whipped Cream and Other Delights (1965) by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, with a special appearance by Dolores Erickson, the original "Whipped Cream Girl." Dolores will be available for autographs at a special meet & greet prior to the Rat City Brass performance. Show admission required.

The Satin Chaps

The Satin Chaps ply their trade in the largely uncharted waters of European style go-go/soul of '60s era groove-pop composers like Ingfried Hoffman, Gert Wilden, and Heidi Brühl. To make it more appetizing stateside, and to craft their own sound, they drop hints of American purveyors like Memphis soul kings the Bar-Kays and Pacific Northwest garage legends The Fabulous Wailers.

Aided by the howl of their three-piece horn section, the whiz-bang of their Hammond organ, and deft percussion to make it all sparkle, the Chaps specialize in sweaty, booty-shaking music. Hailed as "a triumphant celebration of all things rhythm and blues" by Blizt Magazine, and "The Party Album of the year" by The Vinyl Anachronist music blog, the group's self-released debut long player, Might I Suggest The Satin Chaps, is part homage to the likes of Booker T and the MGs, The Mohawks, and Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass.

Friday, July 10, 10:00pm, Red Lion River Deck.

The Ukadelics

From quaint beginnings, strumming for friends at an annual backyard Luau, The Ukadelics now play regularly around town for private parties and themed events. Their repertoire is a range of classic "hapa-haole" Hawaiian songs like Blue Hawaii and Tiny Bubbles to show stopping lounge favorites such as Secret Agent Man and I Wanna Be Like You (from The Jungle Book). Though primarily a uke driven ensemble, The Ukadelics creatively employ a wide variety of percussive instruments as well as a guitar, Hawaiian slide guitar, bass, and nearly a dozen different ukuleles. The 8 member band is made up of artists from the Seattle theater and production industry.

It's an art that requires years of physical and mental discipline and spiritual balance, and their performance is interwoven with an infectuous sense of adventure and humor. Paradise

Presented by MOBILE WEST »

Influenced by rock bands like Richard Hell & The Voidoids, The Rolling Stones, The Shadows of Knight, The 13th Floor Elevators, and The Who, PARADISE has perfected the vintage 1960s psych garage punk mod soul psychedelic pop sound, complete with Farfisa and Hammond Organ. Their music is driven by unique storytelling and an unfettered outlook that doesn't see a boundary between rock and gentle pop melodies. With two tight, sharp albums under their belts, Paradise is hyper-cool, sharp-dressed, dance-this-mess-around mayhem.

Saturday, July 11, 10:20pm, Red Lion River Deck

Lagoon Squad

Lagoon Squad is a Portland combo that hastily convened last winter to play a few surf songs at the Kenton Club for their friend Jenny’s 50th birthday party—and the whole thing snowballed from there. Guitarists Paul Chandler and Dave Krough, bassist John Chandler, and drummer Jane Sullivan used to play together in a garage band called Mr. Howl. When the singer left due to impending parenthood, the four remaining members reunited and re-ignited their communal love of surf instrumentals and swinging 60s rock. Periodically, the band is further enhanced by the talents of keyboardist and trumpeter Andy Giegerich, who brings a splash of sophistication to the squall.
