New Year's Day marks the end of our holiday hiatus and time to kick Tiki Kon planning into high gear. We never stop brainstorming and planning, but it takes a solid six months of dedication to create an event we can be proud of, in addition to our day jobs and family life. This year we've got a lot of changes in store. Not just a new venue and great performers, but upgrades that make it easier and more enjoyable than ever to attend the Pacific Northwest's tropical pop extravaganza.

Better location in the heart of Portland
Our new host hotel is located in the Lloyd Center neighborhood of Portland, just steps away from light rail and close to some of our favorite local attractions. Stroll to Hale Pele or Rum Club, take a train to The Alibi, or stumble to nearby restaurants, coffee shops, groceries, bars, liquor store, shopping, movie theaters and more.
More streamlined registration
When our website melted down last year on ticket launch day, we knew it was time to upgrade to a professional registration system, and we have chosen Eventbrite for it's easy interface and robust features.

Pre-order event mugs with your tickets
This year guests have the opportunity to pre-order official event mugs when they register and purchase tickets. It will still be a locally-produced, limited edition run, but the edition size will be determined by demand, and we should have enough for everyone who wants one. Also, it's not going to be a mug, but something different and special from VanTiki, and we can't wait to show you.
Event app for iOS and Android
We’re introducing the free Tiki Kon app on the Yapp platform for iOS and Android devices. Get the latest schedule and presenter/performer information, create your own custom schedule, receive updates and announcements, network with other guests, and learn about room parties and other unofficial activities. A download link will be provided to all registered guests.
To streamline check-in and entry, cloth wristbands will be used for admission instead of the passport booklets we've used the past several years. Don’t worry, the passports aren’t going away! They’ll still be used for collecting stamps and providing event information, but they were kinda clunky to show at the door and slowed things down.
More symposiums and activities
We’re adding more general admission symposiums, panels and workshops, and extending them into Friday and Sunday. We’re still working on the schedule, so stay tuned for details. Most symposiums and panels are general admission on a first come basis, but some are available as an add-on purchase with guaranteed seating. Add-on tickets are available May 1st.
Larger vendor marketplace
Our marketplace is nearly doubling in size, with space for more types of vendors, a demonstration stage, rum garden, and more. Admission is included with all weekend passes, and can be purchased at the door by the general public. Registered Tiki Kon guests will be able to get in early and get first pick of our vendors' wonderful wares.
After enduring last summer’s brutal heat wave and getting feedback from guests, we are upgrading the Sunday Bar Tour and providing comfortable, air conditioned tour buses. Additionally, the Sunday Aloha Oe Finale Party will be held poolside at the hotel, with a combination of indoor and outdoor spaces.
This is going to be the best Tiki Kon ever. We hope you can make it!
